Jan D. Payne draws on her years living in the Southwest and on the Navajo Nation to explore themes of courage, regret, hope, and restoration. Her stories weave together characters shaped by shared danger and hard-won kinships, highlighting how crisis can redefine family and belonging. Raised among Texas storytellers and inspired by a rich personal history, she brings deep cultural awareness to her work. Jan is a member of Western Writers of America and Women Writing the West and lives in northern Minnesota with her husband and three dogs.
